Restoration of historic North West vessel to debut at maritime event Posted by Hannah Fowler in Featured, Latest News, Your Move Magazine

This year’s International Mersey River Festival will debut the £3.8 million restoration of the Daniel Adamson steam vessel, as it operates fully for the first time in 95 years. This activity is one of a number of new events for the annual maritime festival, set to take place on 3-5 June at Liverpool’s waterfront. The 113-year old boat which is the UK’s last surviving passenger steam vessel will take passengers on a cruising experience as well as giving them access to a floating, interactive museum. The boat was constructed in 1903 and was used to tow barges and carry people and livestock between the docks at Ellesmere Port and Liverpool. Dan Cross, chairman of the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society, says: “We cannot wait to be part of the International Mersey River Festival, this will be a significant event for us as ‘The Danny’ will be finally launched to the public as a new cruise attraction for Liverpool.” The festival, in partnership with Kier Group, is returning for its fifth consecutive year and will also welcome the British ThunderCat Racing Tour and the Industry Pro Wakeboard Tour. Returning attractions include the Northern Boat Show, the International Canoe Polo Tournament, water sport sessions, flyboarding and a Yakovlevs air display. Councillor Wendy Simon, assistant mayor and cabinet member for culture, tourism and events, says: “The line-up for this year is so strong and it’s a credit to everyone involved that the River Festival has established itself as an event that external organisations want to be part of. “The Pro Wakeboard Tour, ThunderCat race, the Daniel Adamson and the return of the Northern Boat Show are all huge coups and will undoubtedly bring in large crowds.” -
