The Danny offers exciting, engaging workshops and cruises for KS1 and KS2 pupils in Ellesmere Port, at Sutton Weaver and at Acton Bridge. Cruises between Ellesmere Port and Acton Bridge allow children the opportunity to learn about rivers and canals, their history, the people who worked on them, the use of steam vessels, the geography of their area and to practice field work skills. We are running 7 cruises in the area this year, targeted at Key Stage 2 pupils, and costing £135 per class, thanks to generous Lottery Heritage Funding subsidy for education cruises:
May 24, 10.00 - 14.00: Acton Bridge-Runcorn-Ellesmere Port
June 5 & 8, 9.45-11.45/12.30-14.30: Sutton Weaver-Acton Bridge and reverse
July 9 & 10, 10.00 - 14.00: Ellesmere Port - Runcorn return
Workshops use the Danny and its river setting to explore topics from the national curriculum on art and design, local history and geography. They are targeted at KS2, last 90 minutes, and cost £60 for up to 30 pupils.
- Art on the Danny - tracing the origins of Art Deco in contemporary art, practical activities, and a creative response to the Danny's Art Deco saloons.
- The River Weaver - Visiting the engine and boiler room of the Danny and comparing the Danny with the vessels that transported salt on the Weaver; comparing historic and contemporary maps of the Weaver, sketching.
- The Manchester Ship Canal - exploring the history of the Manchester Ship Canal through the Danny's history.
Workshops can be arranged at Acton Bridge June 6th and 7th, at Sutton Weaver May 21st - 22nd and July 2nd - 4th, and at Ellesmere Port July 11th - 12th and October 1st - 4th. For queries, contact [email protected]
