We are recruiting for a Volunteer Head of Technical Department     - email [email protected]                                                           

 

Duties.

 

Carry out duties as required as part of the Society management team.  Produce reports as required

 

Carry out duties as required to ensure the safe and efficient running of the engineering department covering the vessel, the base at Sandon and any other possible future sites.

 

E.g.

 

The good operational and running practices developed by the existing team are maintained and developed.

 

Ensure that the machinery spaces are sufficiently manned during operations and other working periods.

 

The training of new team members is carried out to the established requirements and that records are maintained by the trainees and DAPS.

 

The boiler (priority) is operated and maintained in a safe and efficient manner.

Riveted construction -  gradual warming and cooling

Chemical treatment by regular testing and dosing to maintain the correct chemical composition of the boiler water.

 

Method Statements and Risk Assessments for work/operations being carried out – kept up to date and new produced as required.

 

Lifting and Slinging equipment – ensure that testing/certification is carried out as per requirements.   Certificates/notification to be displayed in each work area.

 

Operational/machinery running records (log books) are completed daily.    Note that the vessel’s insurance company require a weekly record to be maintained of bilge water levels, mooring ropes condition and draft fore and aft when the vessel is on static display or shut down over the winter period.

 

Machinery spaces are maintained in conditions to ensure a safe working environment – clean, safety notices, first aid kits, fire extinguishers etc.

 

Consumables – boiler chemicals, lubricating oil etc are ordered and keep records of purchases and costs ( existing system in place).

 

Planned maintenance schedule for all machinery.    Parts/equipment to be available when required.   Tools, gland packing, jointing etc etc.

 

Records to be kept of all maintenance and repair work carried out.

 

Plan and arrange with the MCA and BES the annual boiler survey/inspection.

 

Plan, as part of the DAPS team, for the dry docking of the vessel as required
