The Danny is run by a team of approximately 100 volunteers, from all backgrounds and with all kinds of life skills and experiences. Their efforts are steered by a board of 12 trustees, and two employees.
STUART WOOD joined the Daniel Adamson volunteers when he retired in 2009 after over 40 years service as a Licensed Pilot in the Port of Liverpool.
During those years he was seconded on a short contract to the Port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, was a volunteer skipper and Area Governor with Ocean Youth Club, at the time the world’s largest sail training operation, held a pilot’s license at Holyhead, flew small aircraft and managed a little farming. Stuart is a member of Royal Mersey Yacht Club, regularly sailing one of the Mersey Mylne class boats and is one of the volunteer skippers on the Danny
Two children and four grandchildren help to keep him on his toes as does the Danny and her marvelous volunteers.
The Danny is managed on a day to basis by Andrea Ward, our Operations Director. Andrea joined the The Danny in 2016 after working in marine operations at Mersey Ferries for 25 years. Her experience in the planning and logistics around operating a vessel compliment those of the rest of the team. Andrea successfully oversaw the final stages of the Danny's return to active service including the issue and continued renewal of her licence to carry passengers under steam, and works with the amazing team of volunteers to help showcase the Danny in all her roles as cruise ship, hospitality venue and education setting.
Our Learning & Participation Manager
Cathriona Bourke joined the Danny in 2015 as the restoration was in the final months. She has worked in the education, cultural and arts sectors for 20 years. From an early career teaching adults returning to education, running creative learning sessions with children in a variety of settings and teaching university students, she moved into arts and culture after completing a community arts qualification in Liverpool. She worked as young people's programme manager at FACT [Foundation for Art and Creative Technology] in Liverpool, and youth and community programme curator at Tate Liverpool between 2007 - 2015, before coming on board the Danny project.
