The Danny is run by a team of approximately 100 volunteers, from all backgrounds and with all kinds of life skills and experiences. Their efforts are steered by a board of 12 trustees, and two employees.
Our Chairman
Andy King (25) Andy King | LinkedIn
We were delighted to welcome our new Chairman, Andy King in October 2025.. Andy's 40+ years of Maritime experience (understatement) is invaluable to us, and we were lucky enough to entice him to our Board after his participation in our Maritime Heritage, Maritime Futures project where he was sharing another passion for education and opportunities.
Our Director
The Danny is managed on a day to basis by Andrea Ward, our Operations Director. Andrea joined the The Danny in 2016 after working in marine operations at Mersey Ferries for 25 years. Her experience in the planning and logistics around operating a vessel compliment those of the rest of the team. Andrea successfully oversaw the final stages of the Danny's return to active service including the issue and continued renewal of her licence to carry passengers under steam, and works with the amazing team of volunteers to help showcase the Danny in all her roles as cruise ship, hospitality venue and education setting.
Our Learning & Participation Manager
Cathriona Bourke joined the Danny in 2015 as the restoration was in the final months. She has worked in the education, cultural and arts sectors for 20 years. From an early career teaching adults returning to education, running creative learning sessions with children in a variety of settings and teaching university students, she moved into arts and culture after completing a community arts qualification in Liverpool. She worked as young people's programme manager at FACT [Foundation for Art and Creative Technology] in Liverpool, and youth and community programme curator at Tate Liverpool between 2007 - 2015, before coming on board the Danny project. If you work with a family, youth or community group who would like to find out more or get involved with The Danny, please get in touch [email protected]
