Commemorative CD for sale - Folk Music

Published: 5th Oct

There were two very important passengers aboard The River Weaver Cruise on Friday Sep 30th.

Hughie Jones, folk legend and member of the internationally famous Spinners folk band, and his wife Chris were VIP guest  as a thank you for their support of the Danny.

Back in March, Hughie sang some of his most well known songs in the “Step Aboard the Danny” fundraising concert at the Florrie in Liverpool, making it a night very few will forget and both he and Chris support the Danny in any way they can.

The cruise was magical, through the locks and swing bridges and past unbelievably beautiful countryside, transported on a fully restored and unique coal-fired steam tug, complete with her art deco saloon. The tales this lovely couple tell, of the folk world in the 60’s and 70’s and of the stars and characters they have met along the way, were absolutely fascinating. How many people know that the first of Hughie’s songs that was picked up was “Football Talking Blues” in 1959! Hughie has spent many years learning about the history of ships, the sea and Merseyside, resulting in his many famous songs, such as the “The Ellan Vannin Tragedy" and the “Marco Polo”, so he appreciated the history and stories embedded in the rivets, brass and fine woodwork of the Danny.

And now, to commemorate the return of the Danny to active service, The Daniel Adamson Fundraising Committee are launching an album (produced by fellow Danny fan/volunteer Eden Thomas)

Step Aboard the Danny”,

Full of maritime folk music and shanties and performed by some of the best folk and shanty performers, old and new, in the North West including, of course, Hughie Jones.

The 15 track album costs £7 (all of which goes to DAPS)

and can be streamed or downloaded from here edenthomas.bandcamp.com/album/step-aboard-the-danny.

The album CD will also be available  - please email Eden Thomas at [email protected] if you would like to buy a copy. We also hope to sell the CD aboard The Danny.
