Access Policy
We want The Danny to be accessible and enjoyable for all and have tried to address the access problems presented by the Danny’s original design. Due to the age of the vessel, and her origins as a working tugboat, there are steep stairwells, watertight doors with high step throughs and we do not have accessible toilet facilities. Depending on where we are moored, access to the vessel is via a ridged gangway which can be directly onto the main deck, where catering and toilet facilities are located, or onto the upper deck which has a steep access incline. We have developed an Augmented Reality guide for visitors who are able to board the vessel.
ACCESS to and from the Danny at ANDERTON BOAT LIFT BOAT LIFT:
- Please note that access to or from the Danny berth is via a steep, step-free, path to the visitor centre and car park at the higher level. This may prove challenging to those with mobility difficulties arriving or departing on sailings at Anderton Boat Lift Boat Lift.
For bookings for cruise tickets, we have allocated 5% of our capacity to support BSL companions, personal or care assistants free of charge – please email [email protected] with your preferred date to check if there is still availability for free companions. We will then explain how we will add the free place to your booking.
Access for people who are deaf and hard of hearing: Visitors will have access to the introductory panels on the upper prom, and the tablets on the table tops in the saloons, where they can access written information about the Danny’s history and engineering. We will accommodate a signing companion on cruises free of charge subject to availability. Please see note above on how to book the free place.
Access for blind and partially sighted people: Our guides will talk passengers through the history and design of The Danny. Our interpretation within the Art Deco saloons evokes the history of the Art Deco Saloons in The Danny’s hey-day through the spoken memories of a Danny barman from the 1950s. We will accommodate personal assistants or support workers on cruises free of charge subject to availability. . Please see note above on how to book the free place.
Access for people requiring care assistants: If you can only cruise with us with the support of a carer we are able to offer free space for your care assistant. Please see note above on how to book the free place.
